How do you know if your vehicle will be repaired correctly - before you decide where to have it repaired?

CCAR can help you answer that question. CCAR collision repair shops have agreed in writing to meet 19 important collision repair standards. There are standards governing business practices, training, workmanship, environmental impact, and full information disclosure.

You have the absolute right to select the shop that will repair your vehicle. But for most people, who have little experience regarding this type of repair, that can be a difficult decision. Particularly when you want to be sure the job is done right. CCAR helps in that decision by providing an assurance of repair quality.Look for the best in vehicle repairs. Advise your agent and adjuster that you want a CCAR qualified shop.


19 Repair Standards

Every CCAR shop abides by a rigid code of ethics. Simply put, a CCAR shop stands for the idea that "your vehicle should be repaired to the same or better condition than before it was damaged." And, CCAR shops are serious about this promise of quality. That's why their repairs are covered by a minimum 2 year, written workmanship guarantee. In turn that guarantee is governed by an arbitration board if you are not completely satisfied.

Every CCAR member has agreed to the following nineteen important repair standards.

Full information disclosure

  • Furnish an itemized list for parts and service which clearly identifies any new, used, repaired, re-manufactured or aftermarket parts (to be) used in a repair.

    Workmanship

  • Replace or restore the vehicle's structural components to its pre-accident condition with regard to location, integrity, durability and safety.
  • Maintain a current source of dimensions covering frame (rails and floor plans), upper body dimensions and wheel alignment specifications for types of vehicles being repaired.
  • Have a measuring device capable of measuring symmetrical or asymmetrical unibody structures including the upper body for the type of vehicle being repaired.
  • Have access to a four point anchoring system capable of holding a vehicle in a stationary position during structural body pulls which is suitable for the types of vehicles being repaired.
  • Utilize a paint application system capable of reproducing an original equipment manufacturer's type finish.
  • Have access to electrical or hydraulic equipment capable of making multiple body or structural pulls for repairs.
  • Utilize appropriate welding equipment that meets the vehicle manufacturer's requirements.
  • Reinstate vehicle corrosion protection to pre-accident condition.


    • Training

  • Employ Alberta licensed auto-body technicians. Employed apprentices must also be Alberta indentured and at the ratio of body shops set by the Apprenticeship Board.
  • Provide evidence of ongoing training for all management and technical personnel.

    Guarantee and Arbitration

  • Provide a minimum two year written "workmanship" guarantee.
  • In the case of guarantee disputes, be prepared to accept the ASRA/MDA arbitration board rulings.


    • Environment

  • Have a spray booth meeting current federal, provincial and local legislation requirements.
  • Demonstrate a concern for the environment and handle hazardous waste in a manner that adheres to current federal, provincial and local regulations.


    • Business Practices

  • Comply with federal, provincial and local regulations.
  • Provide worker's compensation and garage keeper's liability insurance.
  • Constantly strive to eliminate all illegal and fraudulent practices.
  • Provide a clean, professional environment for receiving customer.
